What is SQF certification?
SQF (Safe Quality Food) is a food safety and quality certification program managed by the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI) and benchmarked by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). SQF certification shows retailers and buyers that your facility runs a HACCP-based food safety management system verified by an independent third-party audit.
How long does it take to get SQF certified?
It depends on how developed your current food safety programs are. Facilities starting from scratch often need several months to build and implement an SQF system and collect the required records. Our Rapid 90-Day SQF Certification Pathway is designed to get prepared facilities audit-ready in about 90 days.
What does an SQF consultant do?
An SQF consultant assesses your programs against the SQF Code, helps write and implement the required policies, procedures and HACCP plans, trains your SQF practitioner and team, and runs internal and mock audits so gaps are closed before the certification body arrives.
What is SQF Edition 10?
Edition 10 is the latest version of the SQF Code. Sites are audited against the edition in effect at the time of their audit, so existing SQF systems need to be reviewed and updated. Our SQF Edition 10 guide explains the changes and how to prepare your facility.
Do we need a designated SQF practitioner?
Yes. The SQF Code requires each certified site to designate an SQF practitioner who is HACCP-trained and responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the SQF system. We train and support your SQF practitioner through certification and beyond.
Is Food Safety Systems affiliated with SQFI?
No. We are an independent SQF consulting provider. Certification decisions are made by licensed SQF certification bodies; our role is to prepare your facility and team to pass the SQF audit with confidence.
